Little Monkey Apps Fraction Wall provides a versatile digital tool designed to support students in understanding fractions through both independent and group activities. It complements traditional manipulatives such as paper or laminated poster-style fraction walls and Cuisenaire rods, offering an alternative means to explore fraction concepts. The app facilitates solving conventional pen-and-paper problems while accommodating visual and kinesthetic learning preferences, and it supports individual and partner-based exercises.

It is important to note that Little Monkey Apps emphasizes the importance of hands-on activities and does not aim to replace physical manipulatives or classroom pedagogy. The app serves as a supplementary resource—ideal for when students tire of handling physical rods or need to approach problem presentation from a different perspective. In such cases, the fraction wall application offers an effective virtual extension of traditional methods.

Teacher Tool: The teacher module is designed for use by instructors, tutors, or students working independently on equivalent fraction problems. There are no fixed right or wrong answers in this feature, encouraging exploration and discovery. The slide ruler at the bottom allows precise positioning of fractions; when aligned correctly, the app displays equivalent fractions atop the wall. This promotes engaging classroom discussions about approximation and the nuances of fraction equality, such as differentiating between 6/7 and 13/15.

Students can interact with individual 'bricks' on the wall by clicking to shade them, which facilitates visualizing addition and subtraction of fractions or illustrating equivalence through brick substitution (e.g., replacing one quarter with two eighths). The app also includes a camera function for capturing screenshots, useful for portfolio work or sharing progress via email.

The settings menu allows users to toggle the visibility of fractions from halves up to fifteenths, although the utility of certain divisions, such as thirteenths, may be limited.

Complete the Wall: In this activity, students encounter an unshaded fraction wall with divisions marked. They receive fraction pieces delivered via a virtual forklift—clicking the pile adds bricks to construct the wall. Students place the corresponding fractional pieces in matching positions, with options to substitute equivalent fractions (e.g., one quarter replacing two eighths). Ladder levels increase in complexity: Level 1 includes halves and quarters; Level 2 incorporates thirds and sixths; Level 3 extends to fifths and tenths; Level 4 covers halves through tenths.

Two-Player Game: The app facilitates a competitive activity where students take turns filling their own fraction walls. To replicate this physically, one might print multiple blank walls and use a die labeled with various fractions—though having an integrated digital version streamlines gameplay without the need for additional materials or laminating. The objective is for each player to complete their wall before their opponent. During play, a "show me" prompt indicates which player is active; players tap bricks to match fractions and confirm their selections. Correct answers lock in the placement, while incorrect ones result in the removal of placed bricks and passing turns, encouraging strategic thinking.

Addition: For practicing addition of fractions, students are presented with a blank wall alongside specific addition problems. They can utilize the visual aid of the wall or select from multiple-choice options to solve. The activity levels expand from simple half and quarter addition at Level 1 up to fractions involving tenths at Level 4. This feature aims to reinforce comprehension through interactive visualization.
